How to Choose Cross-section of Cables

The choice of power cables should follow the following principles:

(1) the rated voltage of the cable is greater than or equal to the rated voltage of the power supply system at the installation point;

(2) the cable continually allows the current to be equal to or greater than the maximum continuous current of the supply load;

(3) core cross-section to meet the stability of the power supply system when the short-circuit requirements;

(4) according to the length of the cable to determine whether the voltage drop to meet the requirements;

(5) The minimum short-circuit current at the end of the line should be such that the protective device is reliable.

When selecting the cross section of the power cable, the following shall be observed:

1, the first is the transmission capacity (some used to say that the band power), the greater the transmission capacity, the greater the cross-sectional area of the conductor. The capacity of the most direct decision wire, cable conductor cross-sectional area, which is the primary factor.

2, the transmission distance, distance, you must consider the line line voltage drop, requiring a small pressure drop, it must increase the conductor cross-sectional area.

Cable cross-sectional area of choice: As the wire operating temperature in addition to the current through the wire, but also with the wire cooling conditions and ambient temperature, so the allowable carrying capacity of the wire is not a fixed value. Laying in different ways, the ambient temperature is different, the allowable carrying capacity is not the same.
